It’s that time of year again for football games, pumpkin patches, corn mazes, and haunted houses. Last year, maybe you visited the Sunol Haunted House and Halloween Festival. Sunol is a tiny town between Lodgepole and Sidney, NE, but they’ve been putting on a Halloween Festival since 2010 according to the Sidney Sun Telegraph. The event helps with upkeep for the old school building. Sunol is located along Highway 30 so patrons could easily hop in the car for a fun night of chills and thrills by continuing to head east on the same highway for a mere 50 minutes to Brule, NE where the whole town is haunted for School District 13 Haunted Attraction.
Oktoberfest in Sidney, NE happens in the early part of October for Nebraskans who like to get a head start on Halloween. There’s a corn maze and pumpkin patch in North Platte at the Golden Spike Tower. As far as pumpkin patches in Nebraska in the panhandle, though, there’s Fanny’s Fruit Farm and Pumpkin Patch. It’s located in Gurley along Highway 385 north of Sidney and it also features the Haunted Hollows a haunted attraction. Traveling from Gurley along Highway 385 to Brule, NE along Highway 30, through Sunol, a group of Halloween-enthusiasts could easily spend the day, picking pumpkins on a farm, visiting a tiny haunted attraction in Sunol, and then spending the evening in Brule, NE for School District 13, a haunted attraction featuring four different haunts, a haunted bus, haunted streets, a haunted concession stand, and a city filled with scare actors donning film-quality costumes and make-up.
If you’re in the market for just one short haunted house in North Platte or the surrounding areas, there are several one-off haunted attractions, including Horror on the Homestead in Minden a prom-fundraiser or the Theater of Terror Haunted House and Ghost Tour at the Gothenburg Community Playhouse a fundraiser for the theater. For a full evening of fear, consider doing the 45 minute drive on I-80 to Brule, NE and School District 13 where the whole town is haunted and there are four haunted attractions and a haunted bus to keep you busy. This is the only commercially haunted town in the entire U.S., so it’s worth checking out.
